1983 Girls Track Team
The 1983 Girls’ Track team was State Group 3 Runner-up, State Sectional Champion, Morris County Champion, Morris County Relay Champion, and Iron Hills Conference Champion. The team was ranked first in Morris County by both the Star Ledger and the Daily Record. It was the Daily Record Team of the Year, and Coach Len Pietrewicz was the Daily Record Coach of the Year. The relay teams set School & County Records in the following events: 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400. These three County Records stood for 25+ years. The team made the 4x100 Relay Finals in the Championship of America at the Penn Relays. Tanya Smolin (whose 1981 NJ State Girls’ High Jump record still stands to this day) was All-State First Team. Four girls were All-Area First Team: Terry Gnatz, Diane Hayes, Tanya Smolin, and Dina Tobin. Smolin was inducted into the Randolph Hall of Fame in 2015.
