From the Yearbook

‘Show Them No Mercy!’, the slogan for 1995, meant more to the team than anything. It became a slogan that the Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team lived and played by, and a slogan that opposing teams came to know. It gave the girls memories that will last forever.

That same pride and tradition inspired the team, and its drive to be #1. Each day, the girls had to step out and play against some of the toughest competition in the state. Each day, the Lady Rams went out to become better, both individually and as a team on the whole.

The Lady Rams Soccer season never ends. Their goal was to always be prepared and never to be outworked. The girls wanted to be the best team to go through the program. The team wanted to win it all, something no one had done before it.

From the start, the girls fought hard. In the first game, the team faced overtime. It knew that through hard work the team would triumph. In most of the overtimes the Lady Rams faced, they ended up beating their opponents, such as West Morris in a conference game, Westfield, West Milford, and West Windsor in the State Tournament.

Like any team, there were ups and downs. The girls played to perfection in some games yet barely hung on in others. Although there were easy games, in others, they had to pull together to overcome all odds against them. Against Mendham the team was down 2-0 at half time. In the second half the Lady Rams gave everything they could to come up with a big victory to send the team to the county finals. The team came out stronger than ever and defeated Mendham 4-3 in one of the hardest and best-fought games of the year.

Looking back on the season, it was games like this that will be remembered. From the time the season began until it ended the team had to earn everything it got. There was nothing sweeter than to be able to open and to end the season at home. The last game topped it all off. It was great for the team to be able to, play its rival, Roxbury, for not only the Conference Championship, but a good chance at being #1 in the state. Having already won the County Championship and the State Championship made this game even harder. This did not matter to the Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team, however, because it had obstacles in its path from the start of the season. The team started down 1-0 and managed to climb its way back to win 3-1. Sitting on the field after the game, the girls thought about the season and about what their future will be like. The Lady Rams knew their #1 ranking in the state was probable, but they only dreamed about the national ranking. Their dream became a reality when the principal, Mr. Beavers, informed the entire school of their #1 ranking in the nation.

The girls will always be able to look back with no regrets and with a great deal of satisfaction. Thanks again to families and friends for their support, and remember that the Lady Rams will be coming back stronger than ever in ‘96.
